Become who you are

I represent one of many who may be labeled “an artist”. The glamour that comes with this word passed away many years ago and it doesn’t give me any pleasure when a friend introduces me as such. Possibly I just don’t understand what they are trying to say… yes, in fact, I paint. When someone asks what I paint I sigh and ask them to visit for coffee because how can I explain the last thirty some years of my life to a perfect stranger who is on the time schedule… unfortunately it’s not flowers.
That would be easier.

Being an artist, though, has its privilege. It gives us another tool that we can use to create new meanings. It gives a person more power to pursue important questions, rebuild oneself, and create an alternative world where we function by our rules.
I am not worried about old age, death, or the fact that I don’t meet mass media criteria, or that people may have more money than I do. However, I do worry how will I organize myself so my philosophy, my work, my art, my values, and my physical appearance become one.
So I become who I am.
I have a long way to go and it’s fun, exciting, and interesting, and that is what are should be regardless if it brings immediate profit or not. Art is an asset. Don’t lose it, don’t give it up. Fight hard for your dream against the odds.
I
thought
young and invincible
until
one day
can’t get out of bed
creaking
but
if I dare to dream
I leap out
an eighteen year old lover
whose world is flat
with no bounds
unending
this
Wall Street
of my mind
rages in activity
gold
not paper promise
to my dream
