An artist life: How to find time and energy for art.

In the last blog I concentrated a bit on how useful own artistic space is. Funny thing is that we are all just people suspended in some reality where we function. Possibly the best for a creative person is to just calmly embrace that reality and make the best of it. Personally, my artistic space fluctuates because I get restless staying too long in one spot. Over the years my materials floated from kitchen to living room to bedroom and back to a small room that I designated as a studio. Also, for many years I did not have a studio and so I became a drifter. The kids got used to this process without too much thinking growing up as the brushes, beads, and found objects changed their places. My husband protested for a good while, but then gave up.

First Step:

Enjoy setting your own space.

Do you have an urge to create but seem to lack motivation, energy, time, or willingness to finish? I struggled with the same issues for many years. Thankfully, I did not give up. For some reason there was always an idea that there is more to find if I just try. Finishing my work at times was also a very important issue. If you suffer from the same dilemma you are not alone and it is understandable why you are going through this agony. Let’s face it: life is what is. Our job is to do everything possible not to give up on most valued teenage dreams.

For these people who want to get into the habit of regular creative work, whatever it is, I propose a series of exercises to get used to functioning as an artist and making the most of it.

First, take time and pleasure in putting together your little space. Enjoy it. If you have favorite books, bring them to your area. Maybe you can make a trip to an antique or thrift store and hunt for useful furniture, boxes, or unusual fixtures that can help you organize your space. Make a point to appreciate this time. Be creative and look for unusual opportunities. It is an essential part of the process. One is getting ready emotionally and physically for a new term in life. There is nothing wrong in getting a cute cup for the brushes and nothing cheesy in making a little trip outside of the city to look for chair or a lamp. There are good deals on items especially further out and a trip itself will be refreshing.

We are looking to create a transition from old self to new self. From old lifestyle to new one. We can open the door in a dim room and let the light in. The best part of it is that

YOU ARE THE LIGHT!

Good luck.
